Mission Statement / Standards

It is the mission of Ralston Middle School to work in partnership with students, families, and the Ralston Community to achieve academic excellence.   Through leadership, technology, and character education, our goal is to develop safe, respectful, and responsible lifelong learners.

Mission Statement

The media center is a vital and welcoming part of the school where students and staff become active and creative locators, evaluators, and ethical users of information to solve problems and to satisfy their own curiosity and pleasure.

Oganization and Utilization of Resources
Standard 1:

The student will become familiar with the media center, utilize, locate, and use various materials of information in both print and electronic formats.
The benchmarks include library orientation information such as location, policies, procedures, services, and library skills including parts of book, use of the automated circulation system, online databases, and other information sources.

Research Process
Standard 2:

The student will understand and use a research process to select, evaluate, assimilate, compile, and present information and ideas in an ethical and organized manner.
The benchmark includes a research model and use of a research plan, note- taking, outlining, selecting and evaluating a variety of sources, compiling a bibliography, and organizing a research project.

Literature Appreciation
Standard 3:

The student will recognize and interact with various types of literature for the purpose of personal enrichment and information.
The benchmark includes developing a positive habit of reading, awareness of different genres, authors, illustrators, and award-winning books.
